Basic Structures of Body Piercing

For those who want to step up from the “fashion earrings” to the safer body piercings, you may be wondering, “How do body piercings work?” or “How do I put them on?”

Let’s take a look at how the body piercings are structured using some stylish examples of them being worn!

A: Threaded Princess Dangle Ends

The Princess Dangles are interchangeable parts made with 2 Princess Cut gems linked together to make a gorgeous and luxurious dangling end.

The diameter and the gem color of the top and bottom gems can be selected and combined to your preference.

The metal base of the gem is made of hypoallergenic, surgical grade titanium. With 14 titanium colors to choose from, you can easily make your own customized jewelry with the countless possibilities of combinations.

We used the Princess Dangle Ends as an example for the frontal spare parts because they are very popular with those who want to transition from the fashion earrings, but in order to apply the Princess Dangle, it needs a straight barbell post that goes through the earlobe and another spare part behind the ear to secure the barbell.

Straight barbells are comprised of the three parts mentioned above and they are the most popular style of body piercing.

Both sides of the barbell post are internally threaded, and the end parts are threaded to fit the barbell post.

The structure of the straight barbell is shown below. The frontal and rear parts can be combined with any of the threaded spare parts on this page (*with the exception of the Double Threaded Princess Gem Ends and the Double Threaded Marquise Gem Ends) as long as they are the same size.
*The spare parts that have a flat back surface without the grooves can be applied interchangeably for the 18ga and 16ga as well as for the 14ga and 12ga.

※Additional Tips※

You will be presented with the available the sizes and lengths of the Straight Barbells when you are selecting the jewelry of your choice. Please note that there are no “regular” sizes or “normal” lengths in body piercings.
Each ear is different in shape, size, and thickness, and every piercing hole has its own characteristic depending on its location and position/direction. The size and length of the piercing hole will also vary based on where it was opened. Therefore, it is impossible for us to assimilate these details on our end.
Generally speaking, however, the 18ga should be the safest option for those who have been wearing the fashion earrings.
Moreover, the most common length suited for the ears of Japanese people are 1/4″ (6.4mm) – 5/16″ (8mm), so the 5/16″ (8mm) is recommended to try for first-time users.
(*We will not be held responsible if the above sizes and lengths do not fit you.)

B: Princess-Cut Navel Curve

Navel Curves are normally used for belly piercings, but they can also be applied to the earlobes to enjoy the cute and feminine look.

Please see the diagram below for the [Structure of the Jewelry Shown in Example 2].

All of the navel curves, including the Princess-cut Navel Curve pictured above, are comprised of the threaded top part and the threaded bottom part that is jeweled.

The navel curves are generally sold as a set which includes these 2 end parts, but for those who wish to change the top part can do so with any of the threaded spare parts on this page (*with the exception of the Double Threaded Princess Gem Ends and the Double Threaded Marquise Gem Ends) as long as the size fits.
*The spare parts that have a flat back surface without the grooves can be applied interchangeably for the 18ga and 16ga as well as for the 14ga and 12ga.

However, navel curves are only available in 14ga and 12ga, so those who have just transitioned from the fashion earrings should first start with the 18ga and gradually work toward the 16ga. Then after a few months when the piercing hole has gotten slightly larger, the 14ga navel curve can finally be applied!!

Another tip: the 1/2″ (12.7mm) navel curve is the longest length available which is the most well-balanced and highly recommended for application on the earlobe.

Another option is the push-pin barbells which are easier to apply compared to the threaded jewelry allowing you to casually enjoy the benefits of body piercing while still maintaining the appearance much like the Example 1. If you are unsure about handling threaded parts, the push-pins are highly recommended.

The push-pin barbells are great pieces to start with, especially for those who are accustomed to handling fashion earrings but want to switch to body piercings, but there are some limitations concerning the use of these push pin barbells. Such limitations include the fact that there are currently only 18ga and 16ga sizes available, the rear spare parts are only available in 2 types which are both fixed and non-removable, and they are not compatible with the threaded spare parts.
